The TEAC P-55 printer is your all in one solution for CD/DVD media printing, offering you 4 modes in one; Photo (dye-sublimation), Color (CMYK-true black), Black (256 shades of grey) and Versamax. Dye-Sublimation is a process of thermal printing in which a "dye" is transferred from the color roll to the transfer roll as a solid to gas to solid. The dye never becomes liquid, only gas. Thus it is not applied like an inkjet process in dots. The gas application allows the colors to blend together better and produce a more photo realistic image. As for print capability, each ribbon can print 500 discs without being changed except for the black, it can print 2000 (although you will have to change the transfer ribbon since it only handles 500). As for quality, the P-55 is the only thermal printer capable of presenting 400 DPI (290 LPI), keep in mind that the Everest only offers you 300 DPI (173 LPI). The Versamax ribbon's new technology allows the user to print on almost any type of media, whether it is thermal, inkjet or silver lacquer, allowing the user to use any type of media and not just the most expensive.
